It is attractively situated on the edge of a hill in Fife about two miles from the coastal town of Kinghorn and once stood within attractive Renaissance parkland. Piteadie Castle is set in grounds below Piteadie House on the southern slope of a hill in the rolling Fife farmland. Pitteadie Castle occupies an east facing slope at the edge of the hills south-west of Kirkcaldy and overlooks the source of a minor burn now emptying into the Tyrie Burn. Piteadie Castle, as described by the RCAHMS, is in a fair state of preservation. The two Renaissance gateways, dated 1686, are situated at NT 2568 8912 and NT 2575 8913. Visited by OS (W D J) 5 February 1959.

It was partially rebuilt in the 17th century with the addition of a stair tower. It is now ruinous. There is a wall with an arched gateway and a pediment carved with a coat of arms. There is a single storey outbuilding (gatehouse) to the side, also in a ruined state.

Jamie McNab from Savills, who listed the property, said: "The castle ruins and adjacent land are an interesting prospect, with the opportunity to develop the site for residential use being a distinct possibility, though naturally planning consent and the support of Historic Environment Scotland would be required.”
